WCTI/WYDO-TV is seeking an experienced, hands-on Assistant News Director with strong leadership skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with the News Director to execute the vision and strategic road map daily
  • Execute strategies that engage and grow audiences across all platforms
  • Responsible for managing reporters and performance execution 
  • Plan or define strategic direction for special content coverage 
  • Manage assignment desk
  • Work with reporters, photographers and producers to develop on-air and on-line content
  • Coordinate breaking news coverage (including content & logistics)
  • Develop enterprise stories and investigative content
  • Monitor social media and news services
  • Keep news staff aware of breaking news and important stories of the day
Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter, and emerging social media
  • Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws
  • Will bring strong logistic and strategic planning 
  • Excellent verbal, written, and conflict management skills
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple hours of daily newscasts on two stations
  • Must have a proven track record of success in building a winning news organization
  • A journalism degree and news management experience is required
  • Must be able to interact well with reporters, photographers, anchors, all department heads, news managers, production and engineering staff
  • Detail-oriented
