WLOS/WMYA is seeking an experienced, hands-on Assistant News Director with strong leadership and investigative skills. We are looking for someone who loves to dig deeper and uncover the truth. This is a vital role in our newsroom that will oversee our 6pm and 11pm newscasts, as well as head up or four person investigative team.

Experience:

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the station's news operations, establishing goals and directing the staff that produces 30+ hours of local news weekly
  • Work closely with News Director to establish news content, philosophy, and direction
  • Review daily newscasts to ensure quality control and brand compliancy, and subsequently provide feedback to all news staff
  • Assist the News Director with recruiting and hiring for news personnel
  • Work closely with our investigative and advocacy brands to grow and strengthen a key piece of our newsroom strategy
  • Help develop our image on multiple platforms
Requirements: 
  • Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple hours of daily newscasts on two stations
  • Must have a proven track record of success in building a winning news organization
  • A degree in journalism, broadcast media, or related field is required
  • A minimum of five years' of experience in a news management role is required
